Herefordshire in the Army

1782 - 36th (Herefordshire) Regiment of Foot raised.

1860 - Herefordshire Rifle Volunteers formed.

1907 - 1st Battalion Herefordshire Regiment (Territorial Force) established.

1939 - 2nd Battalion Herefordshire Regiment raised.

1947 - The Herefordshires reformed as 1st Battalion Herefordshire Light Infantry.

1967 - 1st Battalion disbanded and Herefordshire & Shropshire Light Infantry Volunteers established.

1972 - 1st Battalion became 5th Battalion.

1999 - The name of Herefordshire is removed from the Army List (Shropshire remained)
